Multiculturalism in Leicester

Out of the considerable number of urban areas in the UK Leicester is the most socially assorted and it's not afraid to leave it alone known. It expects to help this blend of races into the zone and much idea has been placed into supporting the acknowledgment of foreigners into the city so they can blend in with the white network and make an Asian blend. From the significant beginning of movement in the 1970's it is currently felt that Leicester has more prominent decent variety in three squares than anyplace else in Europe. There isn't only a blend of race yet additionally of religion and explicit strict gatherings will in general be attracted to one another. Muslims pack in the Spiney slope and Stoneygate territories, and Hindu's are basically in Latimer, Belgrave and Rushy Mead, these religions remain affectionate while the Sikhs are spread over the entire city. This could be viewed as isolation for the Muslims and Hindu's however infact outside of these fixations they are available in huge numbers all through the city separated from Eyres Monsell where there are scarcely any migrant populaces. The neighborhood government as opposed to getting narrow minded of the outsider deluge have characterized the blend of races and religion in the city as one of their characterizing highlights. They accept the multiculturalism augments the experience of living presenting new expressions, music, engineering, style and food and thusly intend to help the network relations. All through the city strict spots of love have been worked to help oblige the new comers. Leicester assumes an enormous job in obliging evacuees and refuge searchers who go to the UK following oppression in different nations. The city likewise has a large number of the strict and outside celebrations, for example, Mardi Gras and Caribbean Carnival. After the issues in the past of specific people and networks experiencing misuse Leicester attempts to clarify how all minorities have things to add to the general public. This has helped individuals blend a lot simpler and keeps on drawing nearer to Leicester's point of a s ound and assorted city. It has been thought the entire of the UK was ‘sleepwalking into isolation' while urban communities who were believed to be socially various are rather turning out to be ghettos. A significant part of the information on the blend of races in Leicester and different urban areas is found through the statistics anyway this doesn't recount to the entire tale about the outsiders. In Leicester Asian migration is a lot higher than African movement. Something imperative to consider is that most of the individuals relocating to Leicester are twofold transients having just moved some place once before moving to the UK. This has helped them blend in a lot simpler as they have just confronted similar troubles previously and have experience managing the issues confronted. A case of this is Asian families relocating to Africa, and afterward government mistreatment making them move to the UK. A significant number of the family heads are businesspeople or experts anyway their capabilities include to no end in this nation and they have needed to begin organizations without any preparation to utilize their aptitudes and carry a salary to the family unit. The Leicester Asian Business Association assists with making a stage for new Asian organizations and gives a spot to raise concern and talk about help. The workforce utilized by these asian agents is similarly as blended as Leicester itself. Organizations likewise offer no distinction to support for various races rather rewarding them all similarly. One of the principle reasons that isolation generally happens is that migrants need a spot near their structure of love. This implied when they moved to new urban areas they would need to move in with their own gathering of individuals so they are close to the offices that they frequently need. To help spread the way of life Leicester acquired these spots of love over the city. Settlers likewise need a feeling of equivalent chance and despite the fact that there was a lot of narrow mindedness to their blending there were additionally gatherings of white individuals who needed to offer them chances to fit in. One such model is that arranging divisions award consent a lot simpler to construct their places of love. Pamphlets were likewise given to fresh debuts in their local language to enable them to settle. Though the transients need to adjust to their new conditions the current populace likewise needs to identify with their quality. To assist the securities with these new vagrant Leicester began letting applicants approach from the minority networks for constituent positions. By 2002 Half of the Labor bunch had councilors from minority gatherings. A race relations board was likewise made of which the pioneer was an Ugandan evacuee. So as demonstrated the blend of races in Leicester is gigantic and isolation is kept to a base. Be that as it may, maybe above all and stunningly the minorities have individuals speaking to them in government positions which is imperative to their combination into the city. Without this portrayal and association in choices and plans which will influence them blending would be outlandish and the migrants would be constrained into their own networks in which they would leave equal lives. This is maybe the key establishment that is required for multiculturalism and a few spots like London should take clues from Leicester to cause their own multiculturalism to succeed.

Revenge By William Shakespeare s Hamlet - 882 Words

In Shakespeare’s Hamlet, it is very evident that hatred and a thirst for revenge can turn people into something that they are not. Many characters throughout this story exemplify this, but the main two are Hamlet and Laertes. This theme of revenge is established throughout the whole play and it acts as a vital character. Revenge is seen as a cause for many outcomes. Hamlet pursues revenge on Claudius to avenge his father s death. Gertrude is targeted by Hamlet for wedding Claudius too quickly after the death of her husband. He also reprimands herfor her participation in his murder. Finally, Laertes pursues Hamlet to avenge his father, Polonius death. Shakespeare does this through intense suspense, vivid imagery, and through the character’s phrasing. The best example of intense suspense in Hamlet from this book follows; I find you ready, And if you were duller than the fat weed That rots itself in ease on the river bank, You wouldn’t move on this. Now, Hamlet, listen. The story goes that, sleeping in my orchard, A serpent bit me. So the whole country of Denmark Is extremely abused by a lie about the Process of my death, but know, you noble youth, The serpent that poisoned and took your father s life Now wears his crown.(I. v. 29.) However, the fact remains that the vast majority of Camerons conservatives graduated from private schools which does make the overview of the party seem very elitist but, its policies and support for scholarship programmes seem to challenge this idea and show that perh aps the conservative party has changed from that traditional view. Another thing that shows that the conservative party has stuck to its traditional principles is the fact that the party is still very traditionalist. Corporate Social Responsibilities Of BHP Billiton Limited - Samples

Question: Discuss about the Corporate Social Responsibilities Of BHP Billiton Limited. Answer: Introduction BHP Billiton is a multinational Anglo-Australian metals, mining and petroleum listed public organization which has its headquarters in Melbourne and is the chosen company for the report. It was founded in the year 1885 and in 2015 it became the worlds biggest mining organization considering market values (Ore, 2014). BHP Billiton was formed in the year 2001 merging two companies namely the Australian Broken Hill Proprietary Company Limited (BHP) and the AngloDutch Billiton plc. Bilton is on the list of 90 organizations which market and extract fossil fuel and is responsible for two thirds of the worlds greenhouse gas. It is the 19th biggest polluter in the world. This essay looks into how the company plans its Corporate Social `Responsibility and executes it so as to minimize the damage done to the environment. It also shows how the media plays an important role in promoting the CSR activities of the organization. Integrating CSR and Issues Management Corporate Social Responsibility is a type of self-regulation for corporate which have been incorporated in a business model. These are a companys initiatives which help them asses and shoulder responsibilities for the organizations social and environmental well being. These efforts generally go beyond what environmental groups and protection regulators try to do (Crane, Matten Spence, 2013). CSR involves spending money without any financial benefit to the company in the short term . It instead is used to promote positive environmental and social changes. Huge companies especially the ones in heavy industry can have adverse effects on the environment. Spilling of oil in seas and oceans are the most common examples but industries such as mining, agriculture, chemical making can lead to irreparable damage to the environment. Sometimes these can lead to climate change also. While some of the everyday necessities like electricity and transportation are due to these industries there many others who have just grabbed a lot of money from the environments decay (Yakovleva, 2017). On many occasions harm to men and environment happen simultaneously. There were groups in the Amazon rainforest who have been completely wiped off for gold mining, oil and gas drilling and to generate hydroelectric power. In light of these cases companies have now started to embrace a culture which balances the need for profit with a commitment to maintaining and preserving nature. In short the funds which inflict damage to environment and society also allows the companies to have positive changes on the environment. These companies can also use their power to pressure governments and other organizations to use resources ethically (Savitz, 2013). Many organizations today are therefore using the tagline of triple bottom line: social, economic and environmental- or simply people, planet and profit to focus on the importance of preserving the environment (Gimenez, Sierra Rodon, 2012). Issue Management In a projects life cycle there are always unwanted and unexpected problems which pop up from time to time. When these things crop up the company has to deal with those otherwise they can damage the projects outcome. Most of the issues faced in a project are more or less unexpected and ideally there should be team to address it as soon as possible so that the deadlines and objectives can be met (Cho Kim, 2012). Problems such as shortage of staff, suppliers, materials and technical failures can all have an adverse impact on the project if they remain unresolved. Then again issues and risks are not quite the same thing. Issues cannot be predicted, like for example finding a replacement for a staff who has left the company is an identifiable risk (Wu, Chen Olson, 2014). On the other hand however, a staff is involved in an accident and is hospitalized for a month that becomes an issue. In recent times supply chains are quite the central focus in Corporate Social Responsibilities. As part of it the company might take in a lot of people to diversify and empower its workforce. They might also pay generous amounts for maternity and paternity leaves or accidental leaves. These however, cannot change the fact that the raw materials for these industries are purchased from places which use child labour. For example, the diamond industry has received a lot of flak from injustices in its supply chain. Conflict Diamonds are usually plucked from places ravaged by war where groups usually fund their campaigns through excavating these precious stones often using child labour from areas such as Angola, Zimbabwe and Ivory Coast. CSR within the organization BHP states its CSR Policy as a requirement for addressing risks (Hilson, 2012). It also states that it has zero tolerance for the use of child labour, forced or compulsory labour, mistreatment of employees, living wages, workplace health and safety, freedom of association, world heritage sites and protected areas, biofuels, corruption, bribery and extortion, compliance with laws, discrimination, indigenous rights and the environment. BHP also voluntarily gives away one percent of its profit in programs for communities. It has made 241.7 million of community donations which includes a 100 million dollar contribution towards BHP Billiton charity. CSR does a lot of things for the company and therefore organizations nowadays want to spend on these activities so that they can get some mileage out of it. First of all it improves public image of the organization. They can do it by supporting non-profits by giving steady partnerships, monetary donations, volunteerism, in-kind donations of services and products. By means of publicity and general awareness organizations increase their chances of becoming favourable in the eyes of the buyers. CSR also increases media coverage of a company which in turn helps in highlighting the work that the company is doing. Media usually pick up the good things that a company does and highlights them in their space. However, even negative community impacts are highlighted by the media which in turn affects the company adversely. CSR also helps in boosting employee engagement. When organizations try and improve their communities through corporate giving programs they are likely to retain and attract workers. These activities also help retain and attract investors. When a company invests in a CSR activity it shows the investors that it is not just bent on making money. The Communication activities which should be adhered to by the company is that they should always remember that negative reports spread faster than positive ones which is risk while communicating CSR. However, many believe that companies who do not exaggerate or hide their activities have nothing to fear. Firstly, there is nothing to be afraid of the media (Zyglidopoulos et al., 2012). There are managers who believe that media is always out to get them and are only interested in bad news. However, that is not the case. Most managers say that the media report their stories correctly. Also big issues need to be tackled head on. The company should respond to its stake holders and see what they are asking for. Communicating to them what they are interested in will help in eradicating greenwashing(Nyilasy, Gangadharbatla Paladino, 2014). The organization should also never represent itself as a picture-perfect one. Stakeholders can get very skeptical if everything looks rosy from the top. Corporate communications should therefore present CSR activities integrating them into the organizations business and not show them as the companys sole purpose. Communicating CSR should not only be the job of the corporate communications branch but also of the whole organization. While the communication department can only tell the story of the CSR to the world, the rest of the company must make the world believe in the message. There are always CSR issues which a company needs to manage . First is child labour. It is clearly stated in the companys website that children below the age of 15 cannot work in the organization. Therefore they need to see that it is not violated through out all the plants that they have. Also, there should not be any forced or compulsory labour which violates the essential freedom of an individual. Role of CSR Issue Management BHP Billiton can face CSR issues in terms of customer or community conviction. Moreover, the customers and community are less likely to believe on the good benefits of CSR issues, if it is not associated with instant affect. The CSR issue related to customer and community conviction can actually hamper the reputation the brand in the market. On the other hand, in CSR practice, BHP Billiton is more likely to share all kinds of information among the stakeholders, whether it is positive or negative. In such situation, the reputation of the organization is vulnerable to breakthrough, if any negative information about the business in communicated among the stakeholders. Therefore, the organization should immediately manage the CSR issues related to leak out of negative information. Furthermore, BHP Billiton often fails in meeting the expected CSR needs of the customers, community and other stakeholders. The reputation of the organization can also be hampered, when the CSR programs cannot meet the actual expectation of the stakeholders. The organization can effectively manage the media and internet for managing the CSR issues. Moreover, role of CSR issuesmanagement is to protect the reputation of the organization in the market. Moreover, the organization can know about the trends and wants of their stakeholders towards knowing their CSR expectation. In this way, the organization will be better able to meet the CSR needs of the stakeholders. On the other hand, strong media relation will less spread the negative information of the organization, which can protect the image and reputation of the customers. In this way, strong media relation in CSR issuemanagement will help the organization in making sustainable image and reputation in the market. Communicating to stake holders A very key issue in communicating CSR initiatives to stake holders is to make these initiatives sound as they matter. This should be highlighted in such a way so as to see that its not just another part of the company. However, in highlighting these events, that is if they are done very aggressively companies face the risk of getting opposite of the desired result. This is known as a boomerang response. Given the common masss distrust in major organizations it is not unreal for a company to think that the stakeholders will perceive those attempts to highlight CSR as greenwashing.Greenwashing in its truest sense refers to using environment to highlight that a companys products and policies are eco-friendly. In the broader sense greenwashing describes PR which usually aims at giving false impression that an organization is whole heartedly interested and doing CSR (Walker Wan, 2012). There are also concerns about companies which are genuinely focused in CSR can be taken cynically by th e stakeholders. This is because stakeholders do not get to witness the CSR in front and have to rely on the companys own reporting. A key issue for managers, is to minimize stakeholders fear and communicate CSR without being accused of greenwashing (Vries et al., 2015). Therefore communication to stake holders should be very clear and loud. The extent of the CSR activities which are highlighted should be put to the stakeholders in a way that they look believable. Suppose if a company is sponsoring the education of 600 underprivileged kids in Africa it should not resort to stating that it is helping children all over. Another example can be the company spends on biotoilets in remote areas, then it should obviously state exactly the number of toilets it has created so far in those places. The company should also be careful about highlighting itself in front of those stake holders (Costa Menichini, 2013). The organization should not adhere to window dressing showing itself to be something it is not. The company should always clearly mention, its history, its funding, and the state in which it is now. A company with good corporate social responsibilities has these attributes: Understanding of key environmental and social issues which are of prime concern to the stake holders. Accepting the necessity of communicating CSR without bragging. Understanding how CSR adds a lot of value to the goodwill of the company. Also there are a few essential ways to communicating CSR: Cutting out the PR fluff and keeping it accurate and factual. To ensure message sent to the stake holders are consistent. Using data to state what the company has achieved. Explaining how action in the company can be of value to the organization. BHP Billiton has also adopted a corporate governance framework that is designed to ensure: Timely and accurate information regarding BHP Billiton, including its financial situation, performance, ownership. Strategies, activities and governance is provided equally to all shareholders and market participants. Channels for disseminating information are adopted which are fair, timely and cost-efficient; and It does not communicate material price, or value, sensitive information to any external party prior to that information Being disclosed to all shareholders and market participants in compliance with its continuous disclosure obligations. There is always the most necessary need of bridging the portrayal gap. Communications with positive outcomes that tend to put a gloss over the negatives or contain incorrect data can create mistrust and damage the reputation of the company (Tai Chuang, 2014). It is therefore very necessary to check those issues and address them so that the facts are represented faithfully. If it does not happen the media can expose these and result in portrayal gap where there is a difference in how an organization portrays itself and how it is seen externally. Communications with stakeholders is another very important factors these days as businesses need them to work in a global environment. Effective communication is therefore an essential part of not only developing a strategy which can be responsive to environmental and social risks and opportunities and delivering on that strategy. It also influences the organisations culture. Many activities in which organizations engage in, such as employees working for social good and equal opportunities initiatives, are an important part of that transformation, changing the way employees think and behave both at work and home. They also change broader perceptions about the company. The overall communication The overall communication at BHP Bilton is doing well in passing on the information to the key stakeholders of the company. The CSR team too has carefully addressed the fact that it needs to highlight the fact on how the company is giving back to the environment in a way that the depletion seems less. The company can however, have amanagement team in place that only looks into the CSR commitments of the company. The company can take the initiative also of planting more trees or have green zones. Green zones are usually huge acres of land where a company takes the initiative of planting trees (Sung Hwang, 2013). Usually heavy industries which take a toll on the environment tend to use this strategy so as that they can give back the environment what they are depleting (Pellegrino Lodhia, 2012). There are already a few such zones in Australia and BHP can look to further add to those. They can start off by creating a nursery of plants and slowly grow. The nursery should have all types of plants from where people can buy too. Hoardings supporting the same cause can be put across the country so as to highlight this CSR activity with the tag line of What we take, we give double. The second initiative can be an eco-friendly fuel that can help cars and buses run without much pollution (Panwar, Kothari Tyagi, 2012). Since the company is into mining and making petroleum based products they can used their scientists to have a look into this idea. They can start of by making it in the labs and then promoting or testing it in villages that necessarily do not have much access to petrol or diesel. Once they are successful they can bring it to the cities and promote it. In the cities they will be able to sell it too as a better alternative to petrol and diesel and highlight the fact how it cuts down the air pollution levels. Conclusion It can be clearly seen that a company which is into mining and heavy industries has a very transparent identity at the corporate levels. The researches, data and surveys which have been collected from 2014 shows that the company has clear goals and visions regarding the CSR activities in the future. It is in the Forbes list of top companies which goes to show that the company stands firm on its ground and enjoys quite a good reputation among its stakeholders. References: Cho, S., Kim, Y. C. Analyze and evaluate apple’s privacy / security policy and the corporation’s response to the security breach To protect customer information, Apple has an elaborate privacy policy; the policy aims at giving confidence to customers that the company has the capacity and will to protect their information. With the policy, the company ensures that all customer information is only used for internal consumption and no one point should the information be used for any other reason that the customer intended purpose. Customer is also given the option of not giving some information if they think it’s private (Kurtz, 2010). Two method to improve privacy and Data security at Apple Inc. Although the efforts and success attained by Apple can be applauded, the company needs to do more on improving the privacy system. There have been some information leakages that have cost the company and victim customers. The following are two recommendations that the company can implement to improve its security situation: The company’s information, technology, and communication department should be kept on its toes to devise programs that will always be ahead of hackers. To have a good system, there is need for continuous improvement that can be attained through massive research and development. Another system that the company can implement is a hybrid data security system; under the system, every time customer’s information is accessed, either by legalised people or otherwise, the customer is alerted to authenticate the process. Such a system will give customer the power to trace the use of their information and give consent to the same; this will increase the company’s data security. References Kerin, R. A. , Peterson, R. Free Essays on Final Solution

One of the greatest enigmas surrounding the Holocaust and more so, Nazi Policies towards Jews is uncovering when and how Hitler’s Final Decision evolved. The readings for class, Christopher Browning’s â€Å"The Decision for the Final Solution†, Karl Schleunes’ â€Å"Retracing the Twisted Road† and Lucy Dawidowicz’s The War Against the Jews, 1933-1945, presented interesting outlooks answering no only the nature of how the Final Solution was formed, but also the time line with which the plan would be followed. The major underlying question is if the systematic murder of the European Jews was formulated before World War II or during it. Was the destruction, removal, and annihilation of the Jews part of his overall plan for the German empire? This debate between the Intentionalists (Hitler had the idea of removal/murder all along) and the Functionalists (Other solutions towards anti-Semitism did not work; murder was the only option) is verbalized in the opinions of the three authors. Dawidowicz is an ultraintentionalist and argues that as early as 1919, Hitler had decided to exterminate the European Jews (Browning, 97). Schleunes argues that although Hitler had voiced, as early as 1919, his wishes to exterminate the Jews from Europe, he continues by stressing the different meanings of the word exterminate. Exterminate can also mean emigrate, or removal from Europe – not necessarily murder. He continues by arguing that there was no centralized â€Å"extermination† of Jews for a long time until the late 1930s. Upon failure of all the different, independent methods to remove the Jews, extermination through murder seemed to most feasible to the German cause. Browning, in his article, presents both extremes than offers an insight of his own as a â€Å"moderate functionalist†. The Patriot - Movie Review Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

The Patriot - Movie Review - Essay Example Having served in a war, Benjamin fully understands the implication of the war in terms of casualties and destruction. Freedom comes at a costly price but other citizens seem to lack this sobriety and are only infatuated with feelings of victory. In the bid to gain independence, the State gathering at Charleston endorses a war. Instantly, the state is plunged into unexpected violence and the British perpetrate unfathomable atrocities on the American Civilians. Thesis Statement: The theme of determination and emotional turmoil is greatly prevalent in the film, The Patriot. Most young men wanted to enlist in the Continentals, The United States Army. Gabriel, Benjamin’s son is no exception. Initially, Benjamin succeeds in preventing this enlistment. Upon the onset of war, Benjamin’s hands are tied and he half-heartedly allows Benjamin to join the war. The Crown’s army is far superior in terms of armory and the soldiers clearly outnumber the Continentals. All around t here are remnants of destroyed property and hanging corpses of civilians in areas conquered by England. Any sane person can establish that America will lose and wise people like Benjamin attest that, the war was won before it began. The family is deeply disheveled as they worry about Gabriel. Gabriel’s return from war forms a most profound scene and it is also the film’s turning point. ... When the head of the British regiment, William Tavington makes a call to the house to appreciate Benjamin’s generosity, an incriminating letter is confiscated from Gabriel by the British. Gabriel is mercilessly sentenced to hang for treason by the ruthless colonel despite Benjamin’s pleading. In the midst of this mayhem, his younger brother Thomas intervenes in an attempt to save his brother. Colonel Tavington does not hesitate and he shoots Thomas. The image of a helpless Benjamin clutching onto his dead son will be permanently etched in my mind. His pitiful face was so startling and I deeply empathized with him. This state of grief is representative of what Americans felt during the revolutionary war as they helplessly experienced the demise of their loved ones. The death of his son was so devastating, and in response, a warring spirit was stirred up in Benjamin. The once passive Benjamin resolved to take an active role in the revolutionary war, more so to avenge the death of his son. These events gave way to another violent yet moving scene. The atrocities committed by the colonel had fueled Benjamin’s rage and in this state of fury, he resolved to go after the British regiment that was about to hang his son. He handed rifles to his two sons. They all set off to take down an entire regiment! Benjamin, being a native, possessed an upper hand over the enemy as he had a good masterly of the terrain. He leads his sons to a strategic point where they lay in wait to ambush the British. It’s amazing how his son’s shot are right on point. They have been taught well by their father and his mantra is, â€Å"aim small, miss small†. This scene is well orchestrated

Financial Management: Principles and Applications (12th ed.). : Prentice Hall Primary versus secondary market A primary market is a market in  which new, as opposed to previously issued, securities are bought and sold for the first time. In this market, firms issue new securities to raise money that they can then use to help finance their businesses. The key feature of the primary market is that the firms selling securities actually receive the money raised. The secondary market is where all subsequent trading of previously issued securities takes place. In this market the issuing firm does not receive any new financing, as the securities it has  sold are simply being transferred from one investor to another. The principal benefit of the secondary market for the shareholders of firms that sell their securities to the public is liquidity(TItman, Keown, Martin, 2014, P.25). TItman, S., Keown, A., Martin, J. (2014). Financial Management: Principles and Applications (12th ed.). : Prentice Hall Risk-return tradeoff  tells us that we will expect to receive higher returns for assuming more risk (even though there is no guarantee we will get what we expect). However, the risk–return tradeoff that investors face is not based on realized rates of return; it is instead based on what the investor expects to earn on an investment in the future (TItman, Keown, Martin, 2014, P.193). Eye tracking techniques improve aircraft simulators :: essays research papers

A simulated flight environment for pilot training may soon be made more realistic through the use of eye-tracking technology developed by researchers at the University of Toronto's Institute of Biomedical Engineering (IMBE). Many safety and cost benefits are obtained by training aircraft pilots under simulated conditions, but to be effective the simulation must be convicingly realistic. At present, th e training facilities use large domes and gimballed projectors, or an array of video screens, to display computer-generated images. But these installations are very expensive and image resolution is low. Further, it would take an enormous amount of addi to improve image quality significantly throughout the whole viewed scene. However, based on the visual properties of the eye, realism can be obtained by providing a high-resolution 'area of interest' insert within a large, low-resolution field of view. If the image-generating computer 'knows' where the pilot's fixation is, it mage there. The technology to make this possible was developed by a research team headed by Professor Richard Frecker and Professor Moshe Eizenman. The work was carried out in collaboration with CAE Electronics Ltd. of Montreal with financial support from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada. Their eye-tracker can record and analyze accurately up to 500 eye positions per second. The system works by means of capturing and processing the reflections of a low-level beam o f invisible infra-red light shone onto the eye. Multi-element arrays capture the image of the eye and digitize the information, which is then processed in real time by a fast, dedicated signal processing unit. The difference in position between the ligh tre of the pupil reveals the instantaneous direction of gaze. Developments by the IBME team have significantly increased the speed of signal processing in addition to enhancing accuracy of eye position estimates. Eizenman believes that "these improvements make our eye-tracker very effective in monitoring the large G-force environment where the pilot tends to make larger eye movements because of contraints which exist on movements of his head". In a new generation of aircraft simulators, under development by CAE Electronics Ltd. of Montreal, a head tracker which tells the direction of the pilot's head is mounted on top of the helmet. The eye tracker is mounted on the front of the helmet, and is ll exactly where the pilot's eye is fixating. Frecker said that "successful integration of our eye tracker into the novel helmet-mounted CAE flight simulator would result in a new generation of simulators that would likely replace the current large domes and cumbersome video display units.

Is Advertising Good for the Economy Essay

Nowadays, in business world, advertising is considered a powerful tool for competition. Consumers can get useful information from advertisements and can choose products which best suits them according to their needs. Advertising play a significant role in the US economy it assists American economy to function smoothly. Furthermore, it keeps prices low and helps the entry of new organizations in domestic and global market depends on the organization’s business. Advertising especially in the US, is considered as an economic work horse which has performed colossal feats with little credit. However, the work horse often pocks his nose in places where he is not supposed to. Unfortunately, according to O’Connor, â€Å"Unless product meanings change in the populations, advertisers continue to associate the same values with the same products†. (O’Connor, 1996) At present, the US market has become a highly mobile consumer-centric society. In this speedy market everyday millions of dollars exchange through internet and by other sources. The American economy has been conquered by retail and service business industry, and in both industries ads play a fundamental role in boosting their products and services demand. In this regard, any retailing or service business industry if desired to get succeed, both must advertise their product for consumers about product quality, cost and some useful information. In this context, outdoor signs have experienced as the most rapid communicative and cost effective tool. In the year 2004, the economy of Missouri generated approximately 108 billions dollars. According to a research conducted by Davidson revealed the facts that in the year 2004, the aggregate economic activity produced by ads, which includes direct expenditure, goods provider spending and inter-organization activity generated approximately twenty percent of the nation’s 548 billion dollar economic activity and also provided around 429,700 jobs, or fifteen percent of the nation’s workforce of 2. 9 million. Interestingly, the study also showed that the total income earned from the advertising industry was about 108 billion dollars that had a direct link with 54 billion dollars sale. In the same year, around 429,654 individuals got jobs through advertising and positively affected Missouri’s economy in a healthy way. Moreover, 94257, jobs were generated in sales department in various organizations which was the outcome of excessive adverting in all sorts of media. Furthermore, the idea of outdoor signs in America gained so much popularity and in this regard both sate and federal state declared signage as a secure, fast and easy way for advertisement. The study also disclosed that the ads simulated additional buys by providing significant and useful information to a wide range of consumers in the household and businesses, which was also a crucial factor in the market economy. (Davidson, 2005) Due to severe business competition among most of the business organizations in the US, an overwhelming growth of adverting agencies has been observed. Advertising agencies list have showed a constant growth over the past few decades, other than agencies contributed the honor in former years, none have offered substantial or handsome national ads or print campaigns. In spite of a collective ten percent growth in billings from 1. 781 billion dollars in 2004 to 1. 963 billion dollars in 2005 a huge number of ads agencies received a decreased in accounts also declined in cash flow and profitability. According to a study conducted by insider’s reporters from Universal Mc Cann showed that, advertising expenses increased by 4. 5 percent in the year 2005 as compare to 2004 figures. Interestingly, during that rising period black ad agencies did not contribute to country’s economy as much amount as predicted. (Advertising agencies, 2006) A study conducted by The Direct Marketing Association showed that, in New York, in the year 2005, different organizations spent around 161 billion dollars on direct marketing. When this investment measured against total New York income this also had a direct relation with the advertising expenses of that period. Entirely, direct marketing share was 10. 3 percent of the total US Gross Domestic Product in 2005. (Growth Trends Continue, 2005) In the past decade, a tremendous growth has been seen in online advertisement In this regard, two different images marked the way of efficient online advertising which included: direct response or brand building. Due to the abundance availability of computers online advertisement has become a yardstick for consumers. Advertising especially in the US, developed in reply to a huge expansion in markets. For example, product manufacturers and service sellers attempts to reach ever growing customers throughout the nation. In this context, many organizations have adopted technological equipment, better management and so on to meet not only the desired quality of the customers but also provide products on time. According to a research conducted by Molinari and Turino in 2006: o Expenses on ads are positively correlated with Gross Domestic Product. o Both consumption and investment has a direct relation with ads expenditures. o The organization’s ads positively impact on family demand of good. As a whole, it connotes that ads positively impacts the aggregate utilization of the economy as if it were an exogenic demand shock. o At state level advertisers contribute a multitude of taxes which normally includes, property tax, state income tax so forth. (Molinari and Turino, 2006) â€Å"The latest e Marketer estimates put total US Internet ad spending at $16. 4 billion this year, a 30. 8% gain over last year’s $12. 5 billion. The prime engine behind such strong growth is Google, whose US online advertising revenues are expected to be more than $4 billion (after subtracting traffic acquisition costs paid to network partners). † (Hallerman, 2006). Outstanding results of advertising will continue to come in the last months of 2007; with aggregate US online ad spending reaches at the end of this year around 19. 5 billion dollars. Nonetheless, this will be because of overall US economic weaknesses, in the United States real Gross Domestic Product growth is likely to down from over 3 percent in the year 2006 to around two percent in 2007. It is interesting to note that, in spite of the fact that the United States economy is considered a soft economy, growth in online advertisement will continue to rise by 17. 5 percent in the next year. Merrill Lynch a media analyst Lauren Rich Fine said on Friday, December 1, as reported by Media Post, 2. 6 percent expenditure on aggregate ads for 2007 is not astonishing, and can be devoted as a more muted economic in the following year. Furthermore, as Steve Fredericks, the president and CEO of TNS Media Intelligence, said e Marketer in early December, â€Å"We see GDP remaining sluggish at least through the first half of 2007†. (Hallerman, 2006) The year 2008, the United States Gross Domestic Product is expected to get closer to three percent. Online advertisements will also bounce with a 22. 1 percent significant increase as compare to 2007. This is also expecting that, due to the fact that political races primarily depended on internet communication, with the 2008 election, ads will share a significant amount on overall country’s economy. Besides, 2008 summer Olympics will also play a tremendous role in advertisement investing. (Hallerman, 2006). A study conducted by Direct Marketing Today (DMA), the study primarily reported the top line outcomes from the DMA insight econometric model of the United States direct marketing activities for the state as a whole, the Business to consumer (B2C), Business to Business (B2B), the most important direct marketing media, and for the economy’s of around 50 organizations group. Some study’s interesting findings are: Continue Growth By the year 2009, it is estimated that the sales driven by direct marketing will grow by 6. 4 percent, which will be 5. 3 percent up if compare to 1999 to 2004 figures. Jobs DM- driven employment is forecasted to grow by two percent per annum throughout 2009. The report also showed that, in the year 2005, direct marketing expenses directly supported 10. 6 million jobs. That was not only included direct marketers but also other employees whose requirement were needed to fulfill increased orders produced by direct marketing. High Return on Investment In 2005, an investment of dollar 1 in direct marketing ad expenses returned, on average 11. 49 incremented incomes across all organizations. Important Part of the Advertising Mix â€Å"Direct marketing advertising expenditures accounted for 47. 9% of total advertising in 2004, up from 46. 9% in 1999†. (Growth Trends Continue, 2005) Conclusion In today’s world of complex business, in order to survive in a severe competition market both domestic and international organizations paying a large amount of their product cost in shape of advertisement. Certainly, virtually all types of business even those not perceived as major marketers rely on advertising for their economic well-being. As discussed above, no body can deny the statement that, in the US ads play a vital role in boosting up the nation’s economy. Thousands of individuals every year get jobs through internet, newspapers, billboards and TV ads, consequently, decreasing unemployment ratio of the country. Throughout it has also been observed that, expenditures on ads have a direct link with the US total sale of each year. In this regard, ads share a fairly large amount in the US Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Certainly, through advertising almost all consumers come to know about product cost its specific features and most importantly ad gives a consumer an open right to discriminate between two identical products and buy the good one. The Rape Of Lock By Alexander Pope - 1448 Words

A mock epic is an extended narrative poem in an elevated or dignified language that celebrating the feats of a legendary or traditional hero. In Alexander Pope’s, The Rape of Lock, his poem is a mock epic, not only because it is a long narrative poem; but his work consists in a series of events and revolves around beauty over brains. This mock epic satirizes not only sylphs, but also satirizes a woman’s ability to think logically than emotionally. The Rape of Lock is considered to be a mock epic, because the length is not only long enough, but has a series of events which includes introducing a young girl sleeping till noon, to Belinda favoring her beauty and possessions over her identity, and from meeting the highly ranked Lord Petre,†¦show more content†¦Here, affairs of love may cause serious offense; likewise, insignificant events may lead to great conflicts. Like every mock epic, there is always an appeal to the Goddess of Poetry, Muse, which helps him to compose the poem. The poet asks the Muse to let him understand the reason why a â€Å"well-bred lord† will attack a â€Å"gentle belle† and how a â€Å"gentle bell† will refuse the suit of a Lord. The poet integrates sylphs and spirits (machinery) under whose influence Belinda prolongs her sleep. Also, Ariel is Belinda’s guardian sylph. The spirits guard her and accompany her wherever she goes, â€Å"Her guardian Sylph prolong the balmy rest. Twas he had summoned to her silent bed† (Pope 2688). Usually, the sylphs or spirits are gods who usually have human like creatures report to them. However, in this satirical poem, the spirits report to the humans, which demonstrates the mockery of Greek and Roman gods and goddesses. At this point, Pope displays how much every day beauty takes over mere intelligence with women. The beauty characteristic continues to be the main talking point, as Ariel describes the spirits being once gorgeous, â€Å"And once enclosed in woman’s beauteous mold† (Pope 2668). Usually, when beautiful women die at their pride, they return to the elements which they most resemble.
